CU on the base
Oceanside, Calif.-based Pacific Marine CU hosted a ribbon-cutting event in celebration of its newest facility, located at the School of Infantry onboard Camp Pendleton.
Celebrity guest
Santa Rosa, Calif.-based Redwood CU and the RCU Community Fund offered a free financial wellness seminar featuring well-known author, TODAY show personality and personal finance expert Jean Chatzky. Nearly 300 guests attended the Napa Valley College event, ranging from students to people of retirement age.
Ascend FCU recognized
The Nature Conservancy in Tennessee recognized Ascend FCU, Tullahoma, Tenn., as an exceptional conservation partner and supporter with the Partners in Conservation Award.
WSECU is up to some good
All through 2017, employees of WSECU, Olympia, Wash., celebrated six decades as a credit union in $60 increments. The credit union’s Up to Some Good initiative allows employees to “pay it forward” by giving them a budget of $60 to spread some good in the community.
CMN hospital garden
In Helena, Mont., Shodair Children’s Hospital unveiled its newly renovated garden with a garden party. The garden is sponsored by Montana’s Credit Unions. Shodair is Montana’s only Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
St. Mary's gets LEED Gold certification
In Manchester, N.H., the McGregor Street headquarters of St. Mary’s Bank was awarded LEED Gold certification. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained, and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.
Back to school donation
Altura CU, Riverside, Calif., donated a van-load of school supplies for local students as part of its annual Back-to-School Backpack Drive, which were donated by Altura employees and members.
Patriot Award
Kristina Lazarus, VP of human resources for Local Government FCU, Raleigh, N.C., received the Patriot Award for her support of Alejandra Patrick, 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Battalion 518th Infantry Regiment (BCT), USAR, by the North Carolina Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
New high school branch
Jeanne D’Arc CU, Lowell, Mass., held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newest high school branch, this one at Nashua High School South.
'Historic' branch
Woodbury, Minn.-based Ideal CU held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its “historic” Stillwater branch, marking the official grand opening of the city’s first and only credit union.

Scholarships awarded
Montgomery County Employees FCU, Germantown, Md., sponsored two Maryland Hispanic Achievement Scholarships, which were awarded at the County Executive’s Hispanic Gala. The two local college students receiving the scholarships are Gabriela Huaman, a student at the University of Maryland, and Hellen Huaman Vergara, who attends Carroll Community College.
Mountain America CU, West Jordan, Utah, awarded more than $14,000 in grants to teachers and PTA professionals in K-12 classrooms. The Mountain America Credit Union PTA Grants were awarded to nine educational professionals, including teachers and PTA leaders. Up to $1,500 was awarded to each grant winner. To be eligible, recipients had to be members of both Mountain America and their local PTA.
