7-Eleven Stores to Sell PayPal Prepaid Cards

The PayPal Prepaid MasterCard card will be available at roughly 5,500 7-Eleven stores nationwide once its rollout is completed this year.

Customers will be able to reload cash onto their cards at these locations, prepaid card marketer NetSpend Holdings (NTSP) said Thursday. NetSpend, which is the program manager and processor for the card, began working with 7-Eleven last fall.

The PayPal card must be linked to a PayPal account to give cardholders full access to its online feature. The cards are being issued by the Bancorp Bank, a unit of Bancorp (TBBK) through a license from MasterCard (MA).

"We are expanding our current offering of alternative financial services because we see an increased demand for this type of product in our stores," Jesus Delgado-Jenkins, 7-Eleven's executive vice president for merchandising, marketing and logistics, said in a news release. "Our customers are seeking choice and convenience when it comes to buying a prepaid card. We are selling the PayPal prepaid card because the brand already resonates with many consumers who want more financial flexibility and alternatives to traditional retail banking."
