The PCI Security Standards Council said Wednesday that it will take over the administration of the use and development of a security format that covers PIN entry pads at the point of sale.
The PIN Entry Device Security Requirements standards, which were drafted and administered by Visa U.S.A. Inc., MasterCard Inc., and JCB Co. Ltd., were designed to protect users' PINs when entered into any device.
Bob Russo, the general manager of the PCI Security Standards Council, said in a press release that taking responsibility for the format "reinforces and expands our commitment to securing the payment process globally."
The Wakefield, Mass., industry group is made up of representatives from Visa, MasterCard, JCB, American Express Co., and Discover Financial Services LLC.
