Ex-Bitcoin Foundation's Shrem Gets 2 Year Term in Silk Road Case

Charlie Shrem, the former Bitcoin Foundation vice chairman who pleaded guilty to federal charges tied to the illicit online bazaar "Silk Road," was sentenced to 2 years in prison despite his lawyer's bid for only probation.

Shrem struck a deal with prosecutors and admitted in September to helping send money on behalf of an operator of an illegal bitcoin exchange called BTCKing. Robert Faiella, who operated the exchange, also pleaded guilty to running an illegal money business and awaits sentencing.
