Fed Joins Twitter

The Twitterverse welcomed the Federal Reserve Board as a member last week and the Fed amassed more than 15,300 followers in a matter of days.

The Fed launched its official Twitter channel under the handle @federalreserve on Wednesday. It said it would tweet announcements after they’ve been posted on the agency’s website.

Other regulators with an official Twitter account include the Office of Comptroller of the Currency (@USOCC), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (@FDICGov) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (@CFPB).

The agency says Federal Reserve staff will tweet press releases, speeches, reports to Congress and video links to help increase its communication with the public.
