FirstMerit Names Wisconsin President

FirstMerit (FMER) has hired a veteran banker to lead its operations in Wisconsin.

The $14.9 billion-asset company said Monday it has named Kevin Leissring president and chief executive for Wisconsin.

Leissring, who previously worked at Wintrust Financial (WTFC), will oversee commercial banking in Wisconsin for FirstMerit, which is preparing to enter the state via its deal for Citizens Republic Bancorp (CRBC).

"As we prepare for our anticipated acquisition of Citizens Republic Bancorp and its operations throughout Wisconsin early in the second quarter of this year, we look to Kevin and his leadership to give us instant recognition and appeal among the business community," David Goodall, FirstMerit’s chief commercial banking officer, said in a press release.

Leissring was managing director of commercial lending for Wintrust's Town Bank in Heartland, Wisc., and was responsible for its commercial banking team assisting midsize businesses. Previously he held senior posts in Wisconsin at Bank of America (BAC), JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Bank One and American National Bank & Trust Co. of Chicago during his 36-year career.
