House Financial Services Members Host Birthday Fundraising Bash

WASHINGTON — Happy birthday to Republican Reps. Michael Grimm and Stephen Fincher, who are both members of the House Financial Services Committee.

Grimm, of New York, turns 42 on Tuesday, and Fincher, of Tennessee, turns 39. In the kind of event that only happens in Washington, the two first-term congressmen will celebrate together at a joint birthday party/campaign fundraiser.

Also celebrating Feb. 7 birthdays at the Capitol Hill Club will be GOP Reps. Allen West and Doc Hastings. Last month, the four House members filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to form a joint fundraising committee.

Money raised by the committee will be split between the four House members' re-election campaigns.

According to an invitation to the party, $250 from an individual is a "balloons" contribution, $500 makes you a "candles" donor and $1,000 is a "cake" contribution.

Grimm, who represents Staten Island and part of Brooklyn, can only hope that his birthday is more enjoyable than the days leading up to it were.

On Jan. 27, The New York Times published a story that questioned some of Grimm's past fundraising activities. Grimm has denied any wrongdoing.
