In Brief: Amex Commission Fees to Rise Oct. 1

MINNEAPOLIS - American Express Co.'s brokerage unit will increase most of its commission fees next month.

In the new schedule, scheduled to take effect Oct. 1, Amex customers who have $100,000 or more will receive only 10 free online equity trades a month; they get unlimited free trades now. Those with $25,000 to $99,000 in their accounts will get only three free online stock buys a month instead of unlimited buys.

Online market orders for customers with less than $25,000 of assets, and all online limit and stop orders, will be $19.95 each, versus $14.95 now. All telephone transactions will be $75, against $44.95 currently.
