In Brief: Western Union Gets Agents in Mexico

DENVER - Western Union Financial Services Inc., a subsidiary of First Data Corp., has allied itself with two units of Grupo Financiero Banamex-Accival - Banco Nacional de Mexico SA and California Commerce Bank - to facilitate consumer money transfers to and from Mexico.

Banco Nacional de Mexico, or Banamex, and California Commerce are to become Western Union's principal agents in Mexico. Starting July 1, Banamex is to offer Western Union money transfers at its 1,300 branches.

"The Mexican immigrant population represents the largest group of Hispanics living in the U.S.," said Manuel Medina Mora, chief executive officer for Grupo Financiero Banamex-Accival.
