Jerry L. McDaniel Jr., president and chief executive of $470 million- asset SunBank/Tallahassee, said he is retiring May 1 after a 20-year career at the Florida bank.
"Ten years ago I set as a personal goal to retire at age 55. With the support of SunBank I am doing just that," said Mr. McDaniel.
The Tallahassee native plans to travel and oversee several family businesses.
SunBank/Tallahassee is a unit of SunBanks Inc., a subsidiary of SunTrust Banks Inc., Atlanta.
"Jerry McDaniel is an outstanding community banker," said Wendell H. Colson, chairman of SunBanks. "He has grown SunBank Tallahassee to be a very efficient and profitable member of the Florida company."
SunBank Tallahassee, which has 18% of the market, is the largest mortgage lender in Leon County.
David B. Ramsay will move from Tennessee to assume the post of president and CEO of the Tallahassee bank, also effective May 1.
Mr. Ramsay has spent his 34-year career with SunTrust Banks. He has served SunTrust as executive vice president of Third National Bank in Nashville; president, chief executive officer, and chairman of the board of Hamilton Bank of Johnson City; and president and CEO of Mid-South Bank and Trust Co. in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Most recently, Mr. Ramsay established the residential mortgage lending unit at Third National, which has grown to more than $165 million in loan originations annually.
