The Tokyo electronics company NEC Corp. is teaming up with the Dublin financial software and services provider Valista Ltd. to develop products aimed at the Japanese payments market.
NEC said Wednesday that it plans to incorporate Valista's payments capabilities in a networking platform it is developing that would facilitate the purchase of many digital content products by consumers. NEC also plans to market Valista's products and services.
The companies eventually want to expand into the global telecommunications market. Valista clients already include several major communications companies, including AOL LLC, Vodafone Group PLC, Hong Kong CSL Ltd., NTT DoCoMo Inc., and France Telecom's w-HA payments unit.
Shigeru Okuya, an assistant general manager in NEC's second network software division, said in a press release, "The fusion of Valista's experience in payments, settlement, and merchandising with NEC's proven strength in systems integration" would let the two companies support new e-commerce services.
