PayPal's Website to Become Less Web-Focused

PayPal Inc. is redesigning its website and smartphone app to downplay online payments and give more prominence to its newer products, such as its point of sale payment system.

The move marks the first time in 13 years that PayPal has completely redesigned its website, the eBay Inc. unit says.

"If you log online to your digital wallet now it's only about online, it doesn't have anything about offline or even mobile," says Anuj Nayar, a PayPal spokesman. "There is not a section that says gift cards … there is not a section that has personal lists."

PayPal has been promoting some of these features at a showcase in New York.

"The pieces aren't really there in the digital wallet yet," Nayar says. "This is the first time that we will be changing the architecture of the product to start to set it up."

PayPal has been working to expand its offerings beyond the Web. It is working on a nationwide rollout of a point of sale payment system with Home Depot Inc.
