Telecom Egypt of Cairo has hired Convergys Corp. to help it revamp its billing system.
The Cincinnati billing services provider announced the contract Tuesday. Under a five-year licensing arrangement signed last year, Convergys already provides its Infinys billing technology to Telecom Egypt.
Telecom Egypt, the largest provider of fixed line telephone service in the Middle East and Africa, said it has lowered its information technology expenses since it shifted to the Convergys billing system.
Jean-Herve Jenn, the president of Convergys' international unit, said in a press release that overhauling the company's billing system "will further improve Telecom Egypt's ability to support a high volume of transactions, new bundled service offerings, and retain customers."
