VeriFone's On the Spot wireless terminal allows restaurant servers to accept card payments at a table or curbside, which it says increases security because the card remains in the customer's sight during the transaction.

Restaurant Data says its POSitouch terminals were developed specifically for the hospitality industry, and the companies have integrated the two systems. The Warwick, R.I., vendor says that more than 26,000 restaurants, offering both table and counter service, currently use its POSitouch machines.

"Restaurant operators are under increasing pressure to improve customer satisfaction as well as increase efficiency while providing secure card transactions," Win Platt, Restaurant Data's chief operating officer, said Thursday in a VeriFone press release. He said the agreement will allow his company "to serve our customers' mobile payment needs with the best technologies available today."
