2Checkout has developed a hosted online and mobile payment processing system that can plug into a merchant's existing e-commerce site.
Merchants have told 2Checkout in the past that they "do not want to mess with Payment Card Industry data security compliance," meaning they need someone to help them meet standards and stay compliant, says Bob Zabloudil, 2Checkout's director of product management. "But they still want control over the buyer's experience, and Inline Checkout met all of those requirements."
Merchants visiting the website of the Columbus, Ohio-based online payments provider can sign up for a free Inline Checkout account in a few minutes, Zabloudil says. "Many of our merchants have applied and started selling on the same day."
A consumer using Inline Checkout enters shipping and billing information on the merchant site before being sent to Inline, which asks for a card number, CVV and expiration date. If the consumer chooses PayPal, the service moves the transaction to PayPal to complete.
Merchants control the color, background and company logos on the checkout page, while Inline Checkout adapts the page to integrate with shopping carts such as Magento, PrestaShop and Open Cart. It also adapts the page for consumers using smartphones or tablets.
2Checkout stores the payment card details remotely as opposed to storing on the merchant's system, Zabloudil adds. 2Checkout says it protects merchants through PCI compliance in addition to its own
2Checkout charges merchants a 2.9% fee plus 30 cents per transaction. Merchants who generate more than $50,000 a month in transaction volume receive discounted pricing, Zabloudil says.
