The Air New Zealand American Express Platinum Card is designed for frequent flyers, according to a statement from the airline. The card comes with a much higher “earn rate” than do other cards and will provide cardholders with one free return domestic flight each year.

Cardholders pay an annual fee of NZ$395 (US$267 or 219 euros), a spokesperson for the airline tells PaymentsSource.

“Cardholders can earn one Airpoint Dollar for every NZ$75 spent,” the spokesperson adds. Other cardmember privileges include a waiver of NZ$250 to join the Airpoint Dollar program, and domestic and international travel insurance.

The deal comes after Air New Zealand in March became an AmEx Membership Rewards redemption partner, allowing cardmembers to transfer AmEx loyalty points to Air New Zealand’s Airpoint Dollars.

Established in 1940, government-owned Air New Zealand operates 99 aircraft and flies to 53 destinations worldwide.
