American Express Co. announced last week it is issuing two co-branded credit cards with Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways for the Asian market–the American Express Cathay Pacific Elite Credit Card and the American Express Cathay Pacific Credit Card. The companies market both cards to travelers and members of the airline's rewards programs–the Asia Miles and the Marco Polo Club, according to the companies. "The co-brand partnership with Cathay Pacific complements our existing portfolio of premium cards for discerning affluent and frequent travelers," Yat-chung Koh, AmEx senior vice president and general manager for Greater China and Southeast Asia, said in the statement. Cardholders can earn Asia Miles on their card spending and have access to more than 500 VIP airport lounges worldwide. The cards also give travel accident insurance coverage up to HK$3.5million (US$448,612). AmEx initially will issue the cards in Hong Kong and Taiwan and later will add other Asian markets, the statement said.
