Elavon, a United States-based merchant-processing subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp, is providing Dynamic Currency Conversion services to HMSHost concession-services outlets in Ireland's Shannon and Cork airports. The conversion technology relies on point-of-sale card recognition that identifies customers' home currencies when they swipe their credit cards. A merchant can then offer customers the opportunity to pay for goods or services in their native currency. The deal with HMSHost, formerly Host Marriott Services, is the first between Elavon and Servebase Global Card Solutions, a United Kingdom-based payments-software provider, to market chip-and-PIN, currency conversion and acquiring services to the hospitality and travel industry, according to the companies.
