Ingenico S.A. says its new point-of-sale mobile terminal line is smaller, lighter and has longer battery life than its predecessors.
The three products differ by screen quality and size. The iWL220 has a monochrome screen; the iWL250 has a color screen. The iWL280 has a color touchscreen and can capture signatures.
The devices can use one of two sizes of receipt paper, with the smaller size best suited for merchants handling fewer than 60 daily transactions, Ingenico says. All of the devices accept contactless, chip-and-PIN and magnetic-stripe transactions, Ingenico says.
Ingenico would not disclose pricing for the devices but says “they will be priced competitively for each geographic region,” a spokesperson says.
The terminals will be available globally in 2011, Ingenico says.
In other news, Ingenico says Veolia Transport is using its iPA280 mobile POS terminal on the Rhonexpress tramway Veolia operates in France. The terminal enables Veolia agents to read and validate tickets, scan printed tickets bought online, and issue and print tickets onboard, Ingenico says.
