UL testing advances Google Pay acceptance

Underwriters Laboratories is partnering with Google to release a testing tool designed to ensure a merchant can accept Google Pay at the point of sale.

The Atlanta-based security and regulatory compliance company says the UL Brand Test Tool Google Pay Module helps merchants avoid acceptance problems for in-store transactions. It tests for common security and compliance issues, as well as acceptance of card images from all four major schemes for debit and credit — Visa, Mastercard (including PayPal), American Express and Discover.

All stakeholders accepting Google Pay will benefit from the test for compliance and interoperability, Isabelle Noblanc, vice president and general manager at UL Identity Management & Security, said in a Wednesday press release.

"This greatly contributes to our aim to support our customers to implement resilient measures that guarantee regulatory compliance, maintain customer trust and increase market access," Noblanc said.

In addition to its work in securing in-store payments hardware, UL also developed a testing tool late this year for e-commerce that helps the payments industry push implementation of the new 3-D Secure 2.0 standard.
