Visa, Cambia Health team to reimburse patients via debit cards

Visa and Cambia Health Solutions, a Portland, Ore.-based health care technology company, are teaming up to offer consumers health care reimbursements directly through debit cards, instead by check or bank transfer.

Through Cambia’s new integration with Visa Direct, consumers may submit a health care claim using a mobile device and request that the funds are sent directly to their debit card, Visa said in a Wednesday press release.

Visa Direct is a card-based platform that can deliver funds in near real time to any branded debit card, including non-Visa products, according to Visa.

“Checks are still very prevalent in health care, for both large dollar and small dollar payments,” said Cecilia Frew, Visa’s head of U.S. Push payment, in the release.
