Putting a premium on employee engagement

When it comes to determining if One Nevada Credit Union employees feel valued and engaged, CEO Paul Parrish doesn’t leave anything to chance. He administers annual employee engagement surveys. The most recent results found that 95 percent of employees responded that they “believe they contribute to the success” of the organization.

“We had 99 percent of our staff rated that there is a good sense of morale among the people that they work with, and 97 percent of employees indicated that they are able to find a satisfactory balance between personal/family obligations and career responsibilities,” said Parrish.

One Nevada ranked No. 6 overall in the Best Credit Unions to Work For 2018 and No. 2 among CUs ranging from $500 million to $1 billion in assets.

In an effort to promote from within, all career opportunities are posted internally before be posted externally on job boards, explained Parrish.

“This allows qualified internal candidates to be considered for promotions or lateral moves before outside candidates are considered,” said Parrish. “We also offer ‘training assignments’ for certain positions, which allows employees up to one year to develop the necessary skill set for a position they might otherwise not be qualified for.”

Every employee at One Nevada CU is also placed on an incentive program, which allows for additional compensation on top of “their generous, competitive rate of pay/base salary,” noted Parrish.

“We have a pay-for-performance compensation structure, and our goals are tied to worthwhile and impactful initiatives to enhance and improve our organization’s and the individual’s performance,” he said.

Founded in 1950, One Nevada Credit Union supports 15 branches and more than 78,000 members with more than $856 million in assets.
