S&T in Pennsylvania Names New Chairman

S&T Bancorp (STBA) in Indiana, Pa., has appointed a new chairman.

Charles Urtin, formerly vice chairman, took over his new position on Monday, the $4.5 billion-asset company said Tuesday. He succeeded James Miller, who stepped down. Christine Toretti, another director, was named vice chairman.

Miller, 67, had been S&T's chairman since 2004. He was chief executive from 1998 to 2008.

Urtin, 66, became vice chairman when S&T bought IBT Bancorp in 2008. He had been IBT's chief executive.

Urtin's "deep, extensive knowledge of the banking industry makes him the perfect person to assume the role of board chair," Todd Brice, S&T's president and CEO, said in a press release. "I have every confidence that he will carry on the tradition of strong, steady leadership from our board of directors, which has been an integral part of our ongoing success."

S&T also announced the retirement of director Alan Papernick.

S&T's board added two directors in February, and the company named a new chief operating officer in December.

S&T bought two small Pennsylvania banks last year: Gateway Bank of Pennsylvania in McMurray and Mainline Bancorp in Ebensburg.
