Citi's Mary McNiff was a newcomer to our Most Powerful Women rankings last year when she appeared at No. 13 on the Women to Watch list. This year, McNiff is No. 1 on the list by virtue of her promotion earlier this year to chief executive of Citibank, the banking unit of Citigroup that makes up roughly 75% of the company's total assets.
Joining McNiff atop this ranking is another newly minted CEO at a top-30 U.S. bank — City National Bank's Kelly Coffey. Formerly the CEO of JPMorgan Chase's private bank, Coffey is just the fourth CEO, and first female CEO, in City National's history.
Other newcomers include SunTrust General Counsel Ellen Fitzsimmons, First Republic President Hafize Gaye Erkan and JPMorgan Chase Chief Information Officer Lori Beer.
